We love to go on trips for birthdays. It was always a tradition I hoped to start when they got older, but it naturally happened during 2020. Here we are still traveling and finding birthday adventures. Isla and I celebrate our birthdays in August and she has become very interested in space. It seemed like the perfect excuse to visit this unique house I saved to my AIRBNB favorites. The theme was aliens!
The house was just a couple hours away in Lake Placid, FL. It is not in a very populated area, but the house itself was going to provide us with enough entertainment.
The dome house had a small loft area at the top of the center of the dome. This loft was filled with over 10 different arcade games. There was also a costume box and some board games. We could stay in the house and never leave all weekend. I would have been perfectly content doing this. My birthday plan was to lay in bed or sit on the couch with my book or the Olympics playing. Also, some naps were in the plan.
Some of the games available were Atarti, Ms. Pacman and Terminator. There were also a variety of alien or space VHS with a VHS player to watch them. There was a lot of attention to detail throughout the whole place and we loved it.
The dome house has two bedrooms. One with a queen bed and another with two twins. The kids love their twin room decor. There was a black light to make their beds and rug glow at night. Our room has a starlight and some aliens trying to escape the vents. Each room had its own bathroom that was full of alien vibes with their own alien shower curtains and more. If you are super tall, the dome’s showers might not work for you, but they were just perfect for us.
There were touches of aliens and even full-sized aliens in the living spaces and hidden in cabinets too. I think my favorite was E.T. and this bike. I wanted to take pictures with E.T. and his bike the last time we went to Universal. The line was long and it was a special tour thing, but now I got my photo!
If you visited this lovely house, you could spend your weekend in, for sure. Pick up some groceries and cook your meals in the kitchen. Grab some marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers for smores. If you are looking to explore, Lake Placid is a great place to rent a boat, do some watersports, or wander around the town. We only went into town because we did not want to cook. We grabbed food, and ice cream and drove around to look at the murals. It is a mural town and a great place to take pictures if that is your thing. There is also a clown museum, but we are not huge fans, so we only looked at the clown murals.
